Blanket washing service in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand

The buyer and the buying decision

Households, schools and accommodation operators. The offer to test is: Blanket washing organized by material, size and care requirements rather than one universal wash process.

Group blankets only when their care needs are compatible, separating loosely woven, heavily shedding or sentimental pieces that require a different treatment decision from ordinary machine washing.

Separate interest from an accepted order

Process a small compatible batch and record actual drying space occupied.

The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.

Collect evidence specific to this offer

Record blanket construction, shedding observations, load grouping and drying time, then develop a separate acceptance process for unusual blankets instead of mixing them with routine household washing.

Question to resolveEvidence to retain
What exactly will the buyer accept?Inspect edges, texture and lint transfer against the intake condition, confirming full item identification and acceptable dryness before returning stacked blankets to the same household or institution.
What is included in the first trial?Group blankets only when their care needs are compatible, separating loosely woven, heavily shedding or sentimental pieces that require a different treatment decision from ordinary machine washing.
How will a prospect see the offer?Use a clearly defined booking capacity and agree turnaround before collection.
What must happen before repeating the trial?Clean correctly identified blankets without avoidable shrinkage or colour damage.

Decide whether to continue

Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. A shedding blanket contaminates other customers' laundry because intake ignored fabric behaviour, causing extensive reprocessing and complaints even though every item followed the intended wash cycle settings.

If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.

Turn the example into a buyer test

Fictional sample order: Three labelled blankets of disclosed size and fibre, cleaned and returned individually tagged. Wool, fleece and woven blankets are not assumed to share one wash process. Assess loose binding or valuable unlabelled items before accepting a standard rate; repair and pest treatment are excluded.

Buyer discussionEvidence to retain
Specification to confirmA photograph establishes whether distortion or shedding existed at intake.
Output to inspectShrinkage, felting or a loosened binding is recorded and investigated before repeat processing.
Failure that can defeat acceptanceBlanket surface becomes felted.

Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.

What a failed test should change

Check original fibre label, texture photograph and process record.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
