Brochure design in Kenya: Operations and Quality Checks
Deliver the agreed result consistently
Structure the brochure around a reader's buying decision, agreeing audience, key services, evidence, contact action, page count, distribution method, and the source of every factual assertion.
The operating sequence for this offer is:
- Agree the brochures audience, page count and purpose, then collect approved services, evidence and licensed images before designing the layout.
- Create a structured draft, check factual claims and contact details against the source and track requested changes through one approved reviewer.
- Inspect the final print or digital export, verify links where included and retain the signed content and production proof.
Put acceptance into the job record
Services, contact details and images match approved sources.
Ask an unfamiliar reader to identify the offer and next step from a folded proof, checking reading order, image captions, contact details, and any unsupported claims before printing.
Inspect at the point where a correction is still possible, then again at handover. Record rejected or incomplete output separately from accepted output. A completed task is not automatically an accepted task, and an invoice does not establish that the customer received the right result.
Measure real capacity
Time preparation, the main operation, transport, cleaning, approvals and correction as applicable. The slowest stage determines how much you can promise. Where two orders need the same person, space or equipment at the same time, resolve the conflict before confirming both deadlines. An additional enquiry should not erase a commitment already made.
| Operating checkpoint | Evidence for this business |
|---|---|
| Before starting | Structure the brochure around a reader's buying decision, agreeing audience, key services, evidence, contact action, page count, distribution method, and the source of every factual assertion. |
| During delivery | Create a structured draft, check factual claims and contact details against the source and track requested changes through one approved reviewer. |
| At acceptance | Ask an unfamiliar reader to identify the offer and next step from a folded proof, checking reading order, image captions, contact details, and any unsupported claims before printing. |
| At the pilot review | Record content sources, image rights, reader questions, fold-sequence findings, approved proof versions, production specifications, and corrections that improve the brochure's ability to support an actual enquiry. |
Keep a correction and escalation rule
When inputs, access, specifications or customer instructions change, pause the affected work and confirm the effect on time and cost. Do not quietly lower the acceptance standard to avoid a delayed delivery. Keep rework caused by your error distinct from a customer-requested change of scope and agree the remedy clearly.
A brochure wastes print spend when folds interrupt essential information or glossy claims replace the specific service details prospects need before making a credible purchase enquiry themselves.
Retain the minimum records needed to investigate a complaint without disclosing unrelated personal information. Use measured delivery and actual acceptance as the basis for expanding capacity, rather than the maximum theoretical output of a tool or production line.
Operating control points for this exact offer
| Sequence | Work method | Release checkpoint |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Fold a blank A4 sheet to A5 and label outside front/back and inside left/right. | Client approves reading sequence before assets are placed; printer supplies final fold template. |
| 2 | Place services and assessment process where the reader naturally opens the brochure. | No contact number or essential qualification is hidden in a fold or split across panels. |
| 3 | Use paragraph styles, suitable images and purposeful white space; edit only with client approval. | Do not compress type horizontally or reduce everything until 500 words technically fit. |
| 4 | Supply printer-specific bleed/colour PDF and a digital version ordered for on-screen reading. | Digital pages do not require the reader to mentally unfold an imposed press sheet. |
| 5 | Print at 100%, fold and compare all four panels against approved content/photos. | Check panel order, edge clearance, image crops and whether the front cover actually lands outside. |
Do not substitute a tick for an observation: record the count, measurement, approved sample or evidence reference used at each checkpoint. Mark unresolved work as held and identify who can approve the recheck.
Diagnose a failure before repeating it
| Observed symptom to investigate | Check the cause | Proposed response |
|---|---|---|
| Front/back reversed | Check labelled folded dummy against exported sheet. | Reorder panels before printer approval. |
| Inside photo crosses fold badly | Inspect fold position and important subject details. | Recrop or move the image so the repair detail remains visible. |
| Text spills after correction | Check overset indicators and all downstream frames. | Reflow with approved edits and reproof every panel, not just the changed paragraph. |
These are diagnostic prompts, not proof of the cause in a real incident. Separate suspect output, record any correction and repeat the relevant acceptance check. Link rejected units, rework time, replacement materials, customer credits and collection delays to the actual job result.
