Candle holder making in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand

The buyer and the buying decision

home and gift buyers The offer to test is: Stable candle holders matched to specified candle formats

Specify candle holders around the intended candle format and placement, seeking competent material and heat suitability guidance before presenting decorative designs as suitable for burning candles.

Separate interest from an accepted order

Test a sample with competent heat and stability assessment

The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.

Collect evidence specific to this offer

Retain the approved candle format, material references, assessment findings, stability observations, packaging damage, and buyer interpretation of use instructions before offering additional sizes or finishes.

Question to resolveEvidence to retain
What exactly will the buyer accept?Review sample stability, candle fit, surface finish, and verified use information, withholding combinations whose material suitability or behaviour under intended conditions has not been adequately assessed.
What is included in the first trial?Specify candle holders around the intended candle format and placement, seeking competent material and heat suitability guidance before presenting decorative designs as suitable for burning candles.
How will a prospect see the offer?Present homeware retailers a tested physical holder, compatible candle information and clearly documented safe-use limits rather than decorative photographs alone.
What must happen before repeating the trial?Stable non-tipping design and clearly stated use limits

Decide whether to continue

Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. A holder becomes problematic when customers assume a broad dish can accept any candle, although its dimensions or materials were only assessed for a particular arrangement.

If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.

Turn the example into a buyer test

Fictional décor batch: make six wooden holders for separately supplied LED tealights only. Draft each holder as a 70 × 70 × 35 mm block with a 40 mm-diameter, 20 mm-deep recess, based on a measured example LED insert of 38 × 18 mm. These are fit-example dimensions, not verified compatibility for every LED unit. Mark both product and listing LED ONLY — NO FLAME. Do not market the wooden item for wax candles, incense or hot vessels.

Specification to confirmThe 40 mm recess is only a draft allowance for the measured 38 mm sample; approve fit before cutting six.
Output to inspectIf a customer wants real candles, decline this design and develop a separately assessed product rather than removing the warning.
Failure that can defeat acceptanceLED jams in the recess

Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.

What a failed test should change

Compare actual insert diameter and recess finish with the approved sample.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
