Cleaning consumable distribution in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand
The buyer and the buying decision
cleaning firms and institutions The offer to test is: Traceable cleaning consumables in original labelled packs
Base replenishment on cleaning tasks, approved products, pack sizes and storage capacity, retaining supplier instructions instead of improvising advice about unfamiliar chemicals or mixing applications.
Separate interest from an accepted order
Trial a short approved product list without decanting
The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.
Collect evidence specific to this offer
Record approved variants, supplier guidance, delivery condition, leakage, reorder intervals and questions referred for competent clarification, avoiding stock decisions based only on requests for the strongest cleaner.
| Question to resolve | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| What exactly will the buyer accept? | Check seals, readable labels, quantities and exact variants, ensuring handover preserves storage and use information for the cleaning team rather than simply matching a broad product category. |
| What is included in the first trial? | Base replenishment on cleaning tasks, approved products, pack sizes and storage capacity, retaining supplier instructions instead of improvising advice about unfamiliar chemicals or mixing applications. |
| How will a prospect see the offer? | Offer cleaning firms an original-pack sample, supplier safety information and an exact-specification recurring supply quotation without unauthorized decanting. |
| What must happen before repeating the trial? | Intact labels and correct ordered product |
Decide whether to continue
Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. Large containers leak or unfamiliar substitutes are supplied as equivalent, causing losses and use complaints that a lower price on the next cleaning order cannot resolve.
If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.
Turn the example into a buyer test
Fictional janitorial supply order: deliver six original 5 L floor-cleaner containers, twelve original 750 ml glass-cleaner bottles, twenty colour-coded cloths and four mop heads. The facility’s competent cleaning supervisor chooses exact products after checking surfaces and safety information. Your work is sealed-product distribution, not detergent manufacture, dilution advice, clinical disinfection certification or decanting products into anonymous bottles.
| Buyer discussion | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| Specification to confirm | Do not substitute an acidic cleaner for a neutral product because both say floor cleaner. |
| Output to inspect | Do not tell untrained staff to mix products or claim a generic cleaner kills every pathogen. |
| Failure that can defeat acceptance | Glass cleaner leaves film |
Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.
What a failed test should change
Check the exact supplied code against the supervisor’s surface approval.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
