Community cycling tours in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand
The buyer and the buying decision
Recreational cyclists whose skills fit the proposed route. The offer to test is: Coordinate community cycling tours with route suitability and competent ride leadership.
Choose a route suited to the advertised rider experience and bicycle type, agreeing regrouping points and what happens when a participant cannot continue riding.
Separate interest from an accepted order
Test a short route with experienced leaders and a small group before public bookings.
The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.
Collect evidence specific to this offer
Record actual riding and regrouping times, mechanical issues, route conflicts and rider feedback, keeping a clear account of where supervision or route choices needed improvement.
| Question to resolve | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| What exactly will the buyer accept? | Run a rehearsal with mixed but suitable abilities, checking crossings, group communication and whether the slowest rider remains supported without forcing unsafe riding decisions. |
| What is included in the first trial? | Choose a route suited to the advertised rider experience and bicycle type, agreeing regrouping points and what happens when a participant cannot continue riding. |
| How will a prospect see the offer? | Partner with established cycling clubs and qualified activity providers. |
| What must happen before repeating the trial? | The route difficulty and support level are accurately described; safety equipment is appropriate. |
Decide whether to continue
Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. A route that feels easy to the leader can fail for guests when traffic, mechanical trouble or separated riders exceed the support arranged for the group.
If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.
Turn the example into a buyer test
Fictional ride: a 90-minute introduction for four adults who can already ride independently, using their own inspected bicycles on a permitted forest trail. Include a short handling check, a paced out-and-back route and two regroup stops. This is not a beginner cycling lesson, road race, mountain-bike skills clinic or medical fitness assessment. Participants provide suitable helmets and bicycles, unless a separately quoted rental provider supplies them. Confirm the site's commercial-guiding and cycling rules before promoting a departure.
| Buyer discussion | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| Specification to confirm | The final route is suitable for the stated rider ability and has a documented turnaround rather than an improvised shortcut. |
| Output to inspect | Completion is based on a controlled group return, not a promised distance, speed or fitness improvement. |
| Failure that can defeat acceptance | Rider cannot stop predictably in the handling check |
Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.
What a failed test should change
Check brake operation and whether the difficulty is equipment or skill.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
