Cooking experience classes in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand
The buyer and the buying decision
Adult learners, visitors and private groups. The offer to test is: Teach a small cooking experience with a costed menu and safe food handling.
Choose a menu with teachable techniques and available ingredients, confirming dietary enquiries and separating participant cooking tasks from advance kitchen preparation and final service.
Separate interest from an accepted order
Trial one short menu in a suitable kitchen and time preparation, cooking and cleanup.
The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.
Collect evidence specific to this offer
Record ingredient yields, preparation completed in advance, participant task time, repeated questions and leftovers to revise recipes around actual learning opportunities and achievable service.
| Question to resolve | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| What exactly will the buyer accept? | Run the recipe with a beginner and verify that each participant can explain the key technique while the prepared dishes reach the agreed serving condition. |
| What is included in the first trial? | Choose a menu with teachable techniques and available ingredients, confirming dietary enquiries and separating participant cooking tasks from advance kitchen preparation and final service. |
| How will a prospect see the offer? | Partner with suitable kitchens and tourism or learning organizers. |
| What must happen before repeating the trial? | Participants complete the menu within the advertised format and receive accurate ingredient information. |
Decide whether to continue
Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. The class becomes a passive demonstration when ambitious menus consume the schedule, while unclear allergen information or crowded workstations can undermine the whole experience.
If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.
Turn the example into a buyer test
Fictional class: four adults learn a simple chapati technique in a competent cook's suitable teaching kitchen over two hours. Each participant makes two practice pieces; the instructor also demonstrates two, giving ten pieces planned. Use one tested recipe card listing ingredients by weight, method, allergens and expected batch yield. The example shopping model buys 1 kg flour, 250 ml cooking oil and a small salt pack; exact recipe usage is set by the instructor's rehearsed batch. The sale is supervised instruction, not unrestricted commercial catering certification.
| Buyer discussion | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| Specification to confirm | The organizer knows who is responsible for hygiene, safe appliance use, illness reporting and any incident response. |
| Output to inspect | Recipe, actual yield and class feedback agree; no unsupported shelf-life or food-safety guarantee appears in the takeaway sheet. |
| Failure that can defeat acceptance | Dough becomes dry and hard to roll |
Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.
What a failed test should change
Compare weighed recipe amounts, dusting additions and rest with the demonstration.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
