Curtain rail fitting in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand
The buyer and the buying decision
Households and decorators. The offer to test is: Curtain rail fitting measured for the chosen curtains, wall construction and opening clearance.
Measure rail span, curtain weight category and window clearances together, choosing a mounting arrangement compatible with the wall and the customer's intended opening pattern.
Separate interest from an accepted order
Fit one measured rail after confirming wall type and curtain weight expectations.
The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.
Collect evidence specific to this offer
Record window width, curtain type, wall observations and operating feedback, then use the measurements to improve bracket planning for similar rental flats or residential rooms.
| Question to resolve | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| What exactly will the buyer accept? | Hang the intended curtains or a representative sample and demonstrate travel, checking bracket positions and clearance around window handles before accepting the completed fitting. |
| What is included in the first trial? | Measure rail span, curtain weight category and window clearances together, choosing a mounting arrangement compatible with the wall and the customer's intended opening pattern. |
| How will a prospect see the offer? | Partner with curtain stitchers and keep the rail measurements consistent with the curtain order. |
| What must happen before repeating the trial? | Rail aligned and usable with the agreed curtain type and documented limits. |
Decide whether to continue
Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. A straight-looking rail leaves curtains catching on a nearby handle, so the customer cannot close them comfortably despite apparently neat brackets and a completed installation invoice.
If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.
Turn the example into a buyer test
Fictional sample order: One three-metre curtain-rail installation for a measured pair of curtains, with customer-approved height and opening clearance. Competent installer verifies the wall or ceiling, hidden services and support system for actual curtain weight and operation. Curtains, supports and fittings must belong to a compatible specified system. Exclude concealed services relocation, uncertain ceiling suspension and heavy stage curtains.
| Buyer discussion | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| Specification to confirm | Mark an agreed layout with the owner before holes are considered. |
| Output to inspect | No binding, unsupported sag or handle/window interference; customer receives actual component and use limits. |
| Failure that can defeat acceptance | Curtains jam at a rail joint |
Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.
What a failed test should change
Inspect the specified joint, carriers and alignment under the actual system instructions.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
