Dashcam fitting service in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand

The buyer and the buying decision

Private drivers and small fleet managers. The offer to test is: Install a compatible dashcam with a documented privacy and support handover.

Plan camera coverage, mounting and power with a competent installer, checking vehicle compatibility and privacy expectations while separating supported installation from unsupported guarantees about insurance or evidential outcomes.

Separate interest from an accepted order

Fit one approved model through a competent technician.

The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.

Collect evidence specific to this offer

Record device reference, approved cable route, recording demonstration and owner questions, then improve handover materials before offering the same dashcam package to a larger fleet customer.

Question to resolveEvidence to retain
What exactly will the buyer accept?Review recorded sample footage and device operation while stationary, checking the owner's access and retention settings and documenting any unresolved issue before declaring the installation complete.
What is included in the first trial?Plan camera coverage, mounting and power with a competent installer, checking vehicle compatibility and privacy expectations while separating supported installation from unsupported guarantees about insurance or evidential outcomes.
How will a prospect see the offer?Offer fleets a documented demonstration without promising accident or insurance outcomes.
What must happen before repeating the trial?Camera placement does not obstruct visibility and agreed recording functions are demonstrated.

Decide whether to continue

Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. The camera appears powered but useful footage is not stored or cannot be retrieved, exposing an installation handover that checked the screen rather than the recording workflow.

If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.

Turn the example into a buyer test

Fictional sample order: Fit one front dashcam through a competent automotive installer using the actual camera/vehicle guidance. Customer chooses supported power arrangement; hardwiring is separately assessed. Exclude airbag interference, hidden fuse advice from a generic guide, safety-system repair and guaranteed legal/insurance evidence.

Buyer discussionEvidence to retain
Specification to confirmParking mode may need different supported power/low-voltage design.
Output to inspectNo adjustment while driving or claim all incidents will be recorded.
Failure that can defeat acceptanceRecording stops unexpectedly

Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.

What a failed test should change

Check supported card, storage and power settings with installer.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
