Data transfer service in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand
The buyer and the buying decision
People replacing phones or computers and offices migrating working files. The offer to test is: Transfer customer-authorized files between devices with verification and controlled deletion.
Transfer only customer-authorized data between identified devices, agreeing included folders, exclusions, account access, privacy, backup ownership, and when the source may be altered or retained.
Separate interest from an accepted order
Transfer a non-sensitive sample folder first and agree exactly which folders and accounts are excluded.
The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.
Collect evidence specific to this offer
Keep authorized folders, source and destination identities, transfer logs, inaccessible files, customer verification, retained copies, and explicit instructions about any later deletion of working backups.
| Question to resolve | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| What exactly will the buyer accept? | Ask the customer to open sampled files and compare folder totals, checking application-specific content separately because copying documents does not necessarily migrate working software or settings. |
| What is included in the first trial? | Transfer only customer-authorized data between identified devices, agreeing included folders, exclusions, account access, privacy, backup ownership, and when the source may be altered or retained. |
| How will a prospect see the offer? | Work through device retailers using a written privacy and handover process. |
| What must happen before repeating the trial? | The agreed files open on the destination; no data is retained without a documented reason. |
Decide whether to continue
Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. The job fails when visible documents copy successfully but the customer loses an essential local archive nobody identified, or source data is deleted before verification.
If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.
Turn the example into a buyer test
Fictional transfer DATA-111 copies one owner's 50GB document/photo folder tree from an accessible Windows PC to a new authorised PC through approved external storage. Output is source/destination manifest, copy/error log and owner acceptance. Installed apps, passwords, locked accounts, forensic recovery and deleting originals are excluded.
| Buyer discussion | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| Specification to confirm | No bypass of encryption or another person's permissions. |
| Output to inspect | Originals remain until explicit acceptance; applications need separate installation/licences. |
| Failure that can defeat acceptance | Files are cloud placeholders |
Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.
What a failed test should change
Check actual local availability.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
