Drip irrigation fitting in Kenya: Operations and Quality Checks
Deliver the agreed result consistently
Design the first drip installation around the measured plot and observed water supply, specifying whether filtration or storage changes belong in the quotation.
The operating sequence for this offer is:
- Survey the drip-installation plot, recording dimensions, water source, available pressure information and components excluded from the proposed installation quote.
- Fit the approved layout using specified components, recording pipe lengths, fittings and labour while checking connections, filtration access and obvious leaks.
- Demonstrate flow and coverage against the agreed design, record commissioning defects and confirm who maintains filters, emitters, pumps and storage afterwards.
Put acceptance into the job record
Commissioning should demonstrate the agreed coverage rather than promise crop yields.
Have the owner watch the commissioning run and inspect accessible joints and controls, resolving visible uneven delivery before accepting the installed system.
Inspect at the point where a correction is still possible, then again at handover. Record rejected or incomplete output separately from accepted output. A completed task is not automatically an accepted task, and an invoice does not establish that the customer received the right result.
Measure real capacity
Time preparation, the main operation, transport, cleaning, approvals and correction as applicable. The slowest stage determines how much you can promise. Where two orders need the same person, space or equipment at the same time, resolve the conflict before confirming both deadlines. An additional enquiry should not erase a commitment already made.
| Operating checkpoint | Evidence for this business |
|---|---|
| Before starting | Design the first drip installation around the measured plot and observed water supply, specifying whether filtration or storage changes belong in the quotation. |
| During delivery | Fit the approved layout using specified components, recording pipe lengths, fittings and labour while checking connections, filtration access and obvious leaks. |
| At acceptance | Have the owner watch the commissioning run and inspect accessible joints and controls, resolving visible uneven delivery before accepting the installed system. |
| At the pilot review | Keep plot measurements, supply observations, installed components and commissioning findings together, recording operating instructions and any unresolved condition preventing the intended service. |
Keep a correction and escalation rule
When inputs, access, specifications or customer instructions change, pause the affected work and confirm the effect on time and cost. Do not quietly lower the acceptance standard to avoid a delayed delivery. Keep rework caused by your error distinct from a customer-requested change of scope and agree the remedy clearly.
An orderly layout can still disappoint when its design assumes water conditions the site cannot provide, leaving customers blaming individual emitters for the mismatch.
Retain the minimum records needed to investigate a complaint without disclosing unrelated personal information. Use measured delivery and actual acceptance as the basis for expanding capacity, rather than the maximum theoretical output of a tool or production line.
Operating control points for this exact offer
| Sequence | Work method | Release checkpoint |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Measure plot, elevation and source connection; have a competent irrigation designer check water quality, available pressure/flow and proposed layout. | Design names actual components and operating limits before purchase; a tank height guess does not clear the system. |
| 2 | Mark ten lateral routes and manifold position with farmer approval. | Measured route totals agree with two hundred metres lateral and twenty metres distribution or trigger a revised bill. |
| 3 | Fit approved compatible filter, valves, distribution and takeoffs under component instructions. | Connections match size/rating and filter remains accessible; electrical/pump work goes to qualified personnel. |
| 4 | Flush/commission using the approved procedure and measure the specified pressure/flow checkpoints. | Far and near points meet designer acceptance; leaks/blocked lines are corrected before crop-performance claims. |
| 5 | Demonstrate isolation, filter maintenance and fault reporting and hand over labelled layout/BOM. | Farmer identifies each zone and maintenance owner; test results/exclusions are written into handover. |
Do not substitute a tick for an observation: record the count, measurement, approved sample or evidence reference used at each checkpoint. Mark unresolved work as held and identify who can approve the recheck.
Diagnose a failure before repeating it
| Observed symptom to investigate | Check the cause | Proposed response |
|---|---|---|
| Far lines discharge poorly | Compare measured pressure/flow with approved design | Have designer investigate source, layout and blockage; do not blindly enlarge emitters. |
| Connections leak | Check component compatibility and installation under instructions | Isolate safely and refit/replace appropriate parts. |
| Repeated emitter blockage | Review filtration, water assessment and maintenance record | Seek supplier diagnosis; no improvised acid/chemical cleaning advice. |
These are diagnostic prompts, not proof of the cause in a real incident. Separate suspect output, record any correction and repeat the relevant acceptance check. Link rejected units, rework time, replacement materials, customer credits and collection delays to the actual job result.
