Gift wrapping service in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand
The buyer and the buying decision
gift buyers and busy shops The offer to test is: Gift wrapping by package size with clear material choices
Define wrapping services by item shape, fragility, paper style, message handling, and collection deadline, agreeing whether customers supply boxes or need additional protective packaging.
Separate interest from an accepted order
Wrap a few sample shapes and time each
The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.
Collect evidence specific to this offer
Record item type, materials consumed, wrapping time, tag checks, customer preferences, and collection delays so the service can distinguish straightforward jobs from labour intensive custom presentation.
| Question to resolve | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| What exactly will the buyer accept? | Check a wrapped sample for concealed price labels, secure joins, accurate tags, protected fragile areas, and ease of carrying before processing the remaining customer's items. |
| What is included in the first trial? | Define wrapping services by item shape, fragility, paper style, message handling, and collection deadline, agreeing whether customers supply boxes or need additional protective packaging. |
| How will a prospect see the offer? | Offer local gift shops a small wrapping portfolio, timed sample prices and clear procedures for handling fragile or high-value items. |
| What must happen before repeating the trial? | Neat finish without damaging the gift |
Decide whether to continue
Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. A wrapping queue breaks down when staff accept unboxed fragile items at the same rate as simple cartons without allowing preparation space or additional handling time.
If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.
Turn the example into a buyer test
Fictional wrapping service: wrap twenty customer-supplied rigid gift boxes, each approximately 200 × 150 × 80 mm, in one approved paper with a tag and ribbon. For this geometry, a trial 490 × 360 mm sheet provides about 30 mm seam overlap around the 150 × 80 mm cross-section and 80 mm end allowance each side of the 200 mm length. Prove the folds on one actual box. Scope excludes supplying contents, hiding damage and protective courier packing.
| Buyer discussion | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| Specification to confirm | Do not accept responsibility for uninspected hidden contents or open a surprise gift without authorisation. |
| Output to inspect | Gift wrapping is labelled presentation only; breakable contents still need separately specified transport protection. |
| Failure that can defeat acceptance | End folds form a bulky lump |
Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.
What a failed test should change
Compare end allowance with the fitted master.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
