Hair dryer resale in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand
The buyer and the buying decision
Beauty professionals needing a documented working appliance. The offer to test is: Used hair dryers sold only after competent condition and electrical-safety assessment.
Restrict initial stock to identifiable dryer models whose attachments, filters and replacement support can be assessed by the appointed competent appliance technician.
Separate interest from an accepted order
Source a small sample and establish a qualified testing and repair partner before resale.
The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.
Collect evidence specific to this offer
Record model, source condition, technician findings, repair decision and customer return reason, comparing reliable repeatable sourcing channels before buying mixed uninspected appliance lots.
| Question to resolve | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| What exactly will the buyer accept? | Require documented technical assessment plus a supervised demonstration of controls and attachment retention, with previous repairs and visible cable wear disclosed before sale. |
| What is included in the first trial? | Restrict initial stock to identifiable dryer models whose attachments, filters and replacement support can be assessed by the appointed competent appliance technician. |
| How will a prospect see the offer? | Offer model-specific information and allow a safe demonstration rather than hiding behind catalogue photographs. |
| What must happen before repeating the trial? | A correctly described tested unit, with no unsupported claim of being equivalent to new. |
Decide whether to continue
Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. A buyer receives a working dryer without its matching nozzle or accessible filter instructions, undermining practical salon use despite an attractive resale price.
If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.
Turn the example into a buyer test
Fictional resale batch: two used, identifiable handheld hair dryers, each sold with its own professional assessment record, model-correct concentrator if supplied and photographs of cosmetic wear. Choose one supported model family rather than buying an unidentifiable mixed sack of appliances. The reseller performs intake and customer communication; competent authorised or otherwise qualified service personnel decide examination, repair and release. Exclude units with missing identity, unrepaired damage or unresolved overheating. Do not advertise domestic equipment as suitable for continuous professional salon duty without manufacturer support.
| Buyer discussion | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| Specification to confirm | Dryer A cannot borrow Dryer B’s assessment or accessories; a model or rating that cannot be identified means no retail listing. |
| Output to inspect | Buyer sees the correct appliance identity and assessment date, and knows to stop using it after a fault rather than repeatedly restarting it. |
| Failure that can defeat acceptance | The dryer switches off during demonstration. |
Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.
What a failed test should change
Stop, unplug and follow the exact manual. Overheating protection is one possibility; do not repeatedly restart to force completion.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
