Livestock mineral lick retail in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand
The buyer and the buying decision
Farmers buying products through traceable suppliers. The offer to test is: Retail genuine livestock mineral licks with intact manufacturer information.
Build the mineral lick range around intact manufacturer information and farmers' actual livestock needs, referring feeding-selection questions beyond the seller's competence to qualified livestock support when needed.
Separate interest from an accepted order
Compare a small range with farmer needs and qualified livestock advice.
The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.
Collect evidence specific to this offer
Record supplier, product identity, package condition, customer livestock context and return reasons, using actual sales to narrow the range without inventing nutritional claims to move slow inventory locally.
| Question to resolve | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| What exactly will the buyer accept? | Ask the farmer to check species suitability, package integrity and readable product information before purchase, ensuring the exact labelled product is what the shop orders and supplies consistently. |
| What is included in the first trial? | Build the mineral lick range around intact manufacturer information and farmers' actual livestock needs, referring feeding-selection questions beyond the seller's competence to qualified livestock support when needed. |
| How will a prospect see the offer? | Introduce a limited authentic range through established agro-retail channels. |
| What must happen before repeating the trial? | Do not repackage unlabelled products or give unqualified feed-treatment recommendations. |
Decide whether to continue
Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. The retailer loses trust when a missing label or substituted product prevents the farmer from checking what was bought, even if the item resembles familiar stock displayed nearby.
If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.
Turn the example into a buyer test
Fictional sealed-product retail order: twenty CKL Africa Maclik Mineral Brick packs of two kilograms each, total forty kilograms, sold by exact product/pack identity. Supply the manufacturer's intact labelled product and refer species, life-stage, ration compatibility and use questions to qualified nutrition/veterinary support. The broad “all livestock” seller wording is not adopted as independent advice, particularly where species-sensitive mineral decisions matter. No repacking, blending or dosing service is included.
| Buyer discussion | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| Specification to confirm | Do not substitute another Maclik formulation or a larger brick solely because the brand matches. |
| Output to inspect | Buyer receives forty labelled kilograms only if all twenty two-kg packs are accepted; advice remains within competent scope. |
| Failure that can defeat acceptance | Buyer requests sheep suitability |
Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.
What a failed test should change
Check exact formulation/label and intended ration with qualified support. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
