Local directory listing cleanup in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand

The buyer and the buying decision

Local businesses with old addresses or phone numbers online. The offer to test is: Correct inconsistent public directory information with owner authorization.

Clean up a defined list of directory profiles, establishing the business's approved name, contact details, location wording, opening hours, ownership access, and duplicate-handling priorities before editing.

Separate interest from an accepted order

Inventory a small set of relevant listings before requesting changes.

The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.

Collect evidence specific to this offer

Record directory URLs, ownership status, original inaccuracies, requested edits, submission dates, published changes, unresolved duplicates, and owner verification of the final customer-facing contact information in each profile.

Question to resolveEvidence to retain
What exactly will the buyer accept?Ask the owner to check sampled live listings and follow contact links, distinguishing changes actually published from correction requests that the directory has not accepted yet.
What is included in the first trial?Clean up a defined list of directory profiles, establishing the business's approved name, contact details, location wording, opening hours, ownership access, and duplicate-handling priorities before editing.
How will a prospect see the offer?Show owners an evidence-based inconsistency list rather than mass-listing promises.
What must happen before repeating the trial?Only genuine business facts are changed; verification outcomes remain visible.

Decide whether to continue

Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. An incomplete cleanup can confuse customers when one prominent listing still shows an old phone number, even though less visible profiles have all been corrected successfully.

If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.

Turn the example into a buyer test

Fictional directory cleanup DIR-40 reviews one plumbing firm's existing entries on Google and two named local directories, three listings total. The firm supplies its authoritative name, business contact, website, real service area and approved hours. Output is a before/proposed/approved/submitted/status table and evidence of visible changes. The provider does not create fake offices, impersonate directory staff, buy favourable reviews or guarantee ranking. Each directory's access and correction process must be checked before accepting publication work.

Buyer discussionEvidence to retain
Specification to confirmOnly the client's actual entries enter the correction scope.
Output to inspectClient receives access/handover instructions and any unresolved ownership problem rather than a false all-clean result.
Failure that can defeat acceptanceAnother firm's entry selected

Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.

What a failed test should change

Compare address, phone and ownership history.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
