Macrame decor making in Kenya: Equipment and Supplies

Buy for the acceptance standard

The procurement decision starts with the result you must deliver: Even knots and secure hanging points

Hang the finished sample using the intended arrangement and compare length, knot consistency, balance, and mounting instructions with the buyer's approved visual reference carefully.

A tool or material is suitable only when it can support this specification at the pilot scale. Use the following shortlist as a starting point, not a compulsory shopping package:

  • cord
  • support rings
  • measuring board

Write comparable requests for quotations

ResourceQuestions for the supplier
cordConfirm the precise variant, usable quantity, compatibility, delivered cost, lead time, invoice and remedy for a mismatch.
support ringsConfirm the precise variant, usable quantity, compatibility, delivered cost, lead time, invoice and remedy for a mismatch.
measuring boardConfirm the precise variant, usable quantity, compatibility, delivered cost, lead time, invoice and remedy for a mismatch.

Ask for the exact unit or pack size, rather than accepting a price without a quantity. Where equipment is involved, check maintenance needs, safe operation, available support and whether you can obtain replacement consumables. Inspect a sample or demonstration where practical. A photograph and a low asking price do not prove suitability or available stock.

Connect procurement to the operating sequence

  1. Agree hanging dimensions, colour and mounting method, measuring cord requirements against one finished reference sample before taking custom orders.
  2. Tie the chosen pattern consistently, secure its suspension components and check finished length rather than estimating from unfinished cord.
  3. Inspect knot security and hanging points, explain wall-fixing responsibilities, and pack the work to protect shape and avoid tangling.

At each step, identify the input whose absence would stop delivery. Arrange that input before accepting a deadline. Compare buying with suitable hire or a competent subcontractor, while keeping the responsibility for inspection and customer handover explicit.

Inspect before release to use

Retain the quote and check the delivered specification, quantity, condition and identifying details. Keep unsuitable items separate while you resolve the discrepancy. Record supplier identity and payment reference privately; do not post customer or supplier personal data in a public planning sheet.

Include cord offcuts, knotting time, combing and trimming, hanging hardware, protective packing, and transport tangling when calculating the margin on large custom wall pieces.

Limit the first purchase to the agreed scope: Offer macrame pieces with agreed dimensions and hanging method, discussing wall space, cord appearance, cleaning access, and whether the customer expects structural or decorative use. Expand the resource list only when actual orders and measured capacity justify it.

Exact procurement specifications for this offer

ItemSpecification to quoteAcceptance evidence
CordTwo 50 m rolls of consistent 5 mm cord: planned working consumption 50 m for two pieces, with the second roll providing setup and design reserve.Check fibre, construction, colour lot and actual roll length; record leftover stock instead of disguising it as waste.
DowelsTwo 300 mm smooth dowels of approved diameter and finish.Inspect for splitting and rough ends; ask the buyer to approve wood colour before cutting.
Knotting and packing toolsTape measure, sharp scissors, comb if the cord construction permits, pattern guide and two protective sleeves.Try fringe separation on a spare length; braided cord may not produce the same fringe as twisted cord.

A usable quotation states the exact variant, comparison unit, minimum order, delivered quantity, tax, delivery charge, payment dates, expiry and exclusions. Obtain written clarification of substitutions; compare only equivalent scopes. Match the delivered item against the same check before releasing it to use.

Supplier evidence and limits

  • Macramé Rope 5 mm - Pale Yellow: KSh 1,200.00 per 50 m roll; 5 mm pale yellow rope, 50 m roll as described by retailer. Sayari Crafts Kenya, recorded 2026-10-26. Observed retail listing; actual stock, fibre declaration, tax and delivery require confirmation. Not automatically the colour/lot used in this illustrative order.

Any listing above is an earlier observation, not a fresh quotation or confirmed stock. Reconfirm suitability and landed cost. The supplier comparison in the operating pack separates purchase quantity from usable requirement when a minimum order creates surplus.
