Move-out cleaning in Kenya: Operations and Quality Checks
Deliver the agreed result consistently
Translate the tenant's requested handover into a cleaning checklist, separating ordinary dirt removal from damaged fixtures, abandoned belongings and landlord repair expectations in advance.
The operating sequence for this offer is:
- Record starting condition. Document accessible surfaces, existing damage and excluded hazards before work. Obtain the site contact's agreement on access and shutdown arrangements.
- protect remaining property. Check each product against the surface and supplier instructions on an inconspicuous area. Keep incompatible chemicals separate and labelled.
- clean approved scope. Control the working area and protect adjacent items while cleaning. Track consumables, labour and any area left inaccessible or unsafe.
- obtain sign-off. Inspect the agreed checklist with the responsible site contact. Record drying restrictions, unresolved marks, damage observations and lawful waste-handling arrangements.
Put acceptance into the job record
The specified cleaning is completed and documented, with damage distinguished from dirt.
Photograph agreed surfaces after completion and invite the named rental contact to check cleanliness, without presenting the cleaning invoice as evidence of deposit entitlement.
Inspect at the point where a correction is still possible, then again at handover. Record rejected or incomplete output separately from accepted output. A completed task is not automatically an accepted task, and an invoice does not establish that the customer received the right result.
Measure real capacity
Time preparation, the main operation, transport, cleaning, approvals and correction as applicable. The slowest stage determines how much you can promise. Where two orders need the same person, space or equipment at the same time, resolve the conflict before confirming both deadlines. An additional enquiry should not erase a commitment already made.
| Operating checkpoint | Evidence for this business |
|---|---|
| Before starting | Translate the tenant's requested handover into a cleaning checklist, separating ordinary dirt removal from damaged fixtures, abandoned belongings and landlord repair expectations in advance. |
| During delivery | protect remaining property. Check each product against the surface and supplier instructions on an inconspicuous area. Keep incompatible chemicals separate and labelled. |
| At acceptance | Photograph agreed surfaces after completion and invite the named rental contact to check cleanliness, without presenting the cleaning invoice as evidence of deposit entitlement. |
| At the pilot review | Record tenant expectations, excluded damage, leftover possessions and inspection comments, then compare actual completion time with the checklist accepted before the keys changed hands. |
Keep a correction and escalation rule
When inputs, access, specifications or customer instructions change, pause the affected work and confirm the effect on time and cost. Do not quietly lower the acceptance standard to avoid a delayed delivery. Keep rework caused by your error distinct from a customer-requested change of scope and agree the remedy clearly.
The tenant assumes every wall mark will disappear, but scuffed paint remains and the resulting deposit disagreement becomes an unfair dispute over cleaning performance.
Retain the minimum records needed to investigate a complaint without disclosing unrelated personal information. Use measured delivery and actual acceptance as the basis for expanding capacity, rather than the maximum theoretical output of a tool or production line.
Operating control points for this exact offer
| Sequence | Work method | Release checkpoint |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ask the tenant for the actual landlord list and mark cleanable items separately from wear, breakage and repairs. Photograph stains and damage before clearing rooms. | The tenant approves the limited cleaning scope without assuming it covers every potential deposit deduction. |
| 2 | Have the tenant identify rubbish for disposal; place any found keys, documents or valuables in a labelled bag for handover. | Nothing valuable is discarded solely because the flat appears empty. |
| 3 | Dry-remove dirt from empty shelves and tracks, then clean compatible fronts and interiors with separate kitchen and bathroom materials. | Cupboard corners are inspected while open and remain dry enough for closure. |
| 4 | Clean reachable glass without scraping unknown coatings, then finish the hard floor after other surfaces. Protect existing floor scratches from misleading after photographs. | Glass is checked in daylight and the floor is assessed after drying, not while wet and glossy. |
| 5 | Walk with the tenant through each list item, showing remaining permanent staining and repairs outside the service. Return keys through the agreed recipient. | The completed report distinguishes cleaned, inaccessible and repair-required items with dated photographs. |
Do not substitute a tick for an observation: record the count, measurement, approved sample or evidence reference used at each checkpoint. Mark unresolved work as held and identify who can approve the recheck.
Diagnose a failure before repeating it
| Observed symptom to investigate | Check the cause | Proposed response |
|---|---|---|
| Wall mark does not lift | Compare the intake photo and test patch for paint loss versus surface soil. | Stop abrasion before removing paint; document the mark as a repair or redecorating issue. |
| Glass looks clean head-on but streaked from the side | Inspect cloth cleanliness and excess glass product at the pane edges. | Use clean equipment and the labelled compatible finish method, then inspect from both directions. |
| Landlord requests an unquoted oven clean | Check the signed scope and whether appliance internals were inspected. | Issue a separate inspected quote or record the exclusion; do not open or treat unknown appliance interiors under pressure. |
These are diagnostic prompts, not proof of the cause in a real incident. Separate suspect output, record any correction and repeat the relevant acceptance check. Link rejected units, rework time, replacement materials, customer credits and collection delays to the actual job result.
