Office desk resale in Kenya: Operations and Quality Checks
Deliver the agreed result consistently
List used desks by measured footprint, surface condition, access requirements and assembly arrangement, checking the buyer's doorway and room instead of considering office floor area alone.
The operating sequence for this offer is:
- Measure desk dimensions and access routes, inspect joints and surfaces, and establish whether safe dismantling and reassembly are needed.
- Repair or refinish only within competence, retain visible condition photographs, and protect components during transport and storage.
- Assemble where agreed, check stability and all supplied fittings, and obtain acceptance against the disclosed condition and dimensions.
Put acceptance into the job record
Stable desk with disclosed marks and correct measurements
Inspect the assembled desk for secure joints, floor contact, drawers and damaged edges, then confirm the actual delivery route before loading its components for transport.
Inspect at the point where a correction is still possible, then again at handover. Record rejected or incomplete output separately from accepted output. A completed task is not automatically an accepted task, and an invoice does not establish that the customer received the right result.
Measure real capacity
Time preparation, the main operation, transport, cleaning, approvals and correction as applicable. The slowest stage determines how much you can promise. Where two orders need the same person, space or equipment at the same time, resolve the conflict before confirming both deadlines. An additional enquiry should not erase a commitment already made.
| Operating checkpoint | Evidence for this business |
|---|---|
| Before starting | List used desks by measured footprint, surface condition, access requirements and assembly arrangement, checking the buyer's doorway and room instead of considering office floor area alone. |
| During delivery | Repair or refinish only within competence, retain visible condition photographs, and protect components during transport and storage. |
| At acceptance | Inspect the assembled desk for secure joints, floor contact, drawers and damaged edges, then confirm the actual delivery route before loading its components for transport. |
| At the pilot review | Record dimensions, dismantling sequence, bagged hardware, access checks, delivery effort and buyer acceptance, using the findings to prevent repeated listing inaccuracies and avoidable reassembly mistakes. |
Keep a correction and escalation rule
When inputs, access, specifications or customer instructions change, pause the affected work and confirm the effect on time and cost. Do not quietly lower the acceptance standard to avoid a delayed delivery. Keep rework caused by your error distinct from a customer-requested change of scope and agree the remedy clearly.
A desk suits the office plan but cannot pass through the stairwell, forcing return transport because delivery access was not assessed alongside the listed furniture dimensions.
Retain the minimum records needed to investigate a complaint without disclosing unrelated personal information. Use measured delivery and actual acceptance as the basis for expanding capacity, rather than the maximum theoretical output of a tool or production line.
Operating control points for this exact offer
| Sequence | Work method | Release checkpoint |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Record top/frame dimensions, material, drawer/lock parts, model and visible damage under DK01–DK04. | Check underside and edges for swelling or damaged fixing points, not only the polished top. |
| 2 | Use the actual maker’s parts/manual where available and have a competent furniture person assess missing or damaged connections. | An IKEA example manual is not a bolt-selection guide for another desk. |
| 3 | Measure doors, lift and stairs at collection and destination; agree what may be dismantled and who handles lifting. | Do not force a 1,200 mm top through an unmeasured route. |
| 4 | Label each top, frame part and hardware bag by desk ID, protect edges and avoid overtightening weak board fixings on reassembly. | Never mix visually similar bolts from four desks without compatibility evidence. |
| 5 | Demonstrate drawer/lock operation and stable assembly on the intended floor, noting remaining cosmetic defects. | No improvised load test or repaired-desk capacity rating is claimed. |
Do not substitute a tick for an observation: record the count, measurement, approved sample or evidence reference used at each checkpoint. Mark unresolved work as held and identify who can approve the recheck.
Diagnose a failure before repeating it
| Observed symptom to investigate | Check the cause | Proposed response |
|---|---|---|
| Top swells around a joint | Inspect board integrity and water damage. | Reject the structural area for competent assessment rather than painting over it. |
| Desk rocks after assembly | Check floor, original levelling parts and joint assembly. | Correct through the documented construction or hold the desk. |
| Hardware bag lacks a bolt | Audit parts against the desk’s original construction. | Source an approved match; do not borrow an unknown bolt from another desk. |
These are diagnostic prompts, not proof of the cause in a real incident. Separate suspect output, record any correction and repeat the relevant acceptance check. Link rejected units, rework time, replacement materials, customer credits and collection delays to the actual job result.
