Office network cabling in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand
The buyer and the buying decision
Small offices fitting out workstations or replacing untidy cables. The offer to test is: Install labelled office network cabling with measured routes and test records.
Plan office cabling from agreed workpoints, routes, building permissions, equipment locations, and competent installation responsibilities, identifying disruptive work before quoting the full installation assignment.
Separate interest from an accepted order
Survey one cable run and provide a bill of materials before a limited installation.
The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.
Collect evidence specific to this offer
Record outlet plans, route approvals, installed labels, materials, test evidence, building exceptions, client changes, and the final connection map handed to the office's responsible administrator.
| Question to resolve | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| What exactly will the buyer accept? | Ask the client to verify each labelled outlet against its intended location and agreed test evidence, checking patching records and reinstatement of disturbed work areas. |
| What is included in the first trial? | Plan office cabling from agreed workpoints, routes, building permissions, equipment locations, and competent installation responsibilities, identifying disruptive work before quoting the full installation assignment. |
| How will a prospect see the offer? | Approach office fit-out contractors with a sample port map and handover report. |
| What must happen before repeating the trial? | Every agreed point is labelled and passes the documented test; fire and building requirements are respected. |
Decide whether to continue
Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. A network may connect today yet become expensive to maintain when unlabeled runs prevent staff from identifying which outlet or patch-panel connection serves a workstation.
If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.
Turn the example into a buyer test
Fictional cabling job CAB-114 contracts a competent data-cabling installer for eight office links, each estimated 15 m before survey, plus labelled patching. Output is route approval, end-to-end label map and per-link test results. Electrical circuits, structural drilling without approval, working-at-height instruction and claimingCat 6 certification from a continuity tester are excluded.
| Buyer discussion | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| Specification to confirm | 150 mpurchase is provisional, not permission to use unsafe routes. |
| Output to inspect | All eight links reconcile; failed links are not signed off. |
| Failure that can defeat acceptance | Port label wrong |
Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.
What a failed test should change
Compare outlet/panel map.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
