Office paper collection in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand
The buyer and the buying decision
Offices and a verified paper recovery operator. The offer to test is: Collect office paper through an agreed privacy and recovery process.
Define accepted office paper and secure handling expectations, distinguishing ordinary recycling collection from confidential destruction services that require a separately substantiated process and customer agreement beforehand.
Separate interest from an accepted order
Trial one consented batch of non-confidential paper before handling sensitive records.
The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.
Collect evidence specific to this offer
Record accepted categories, pickup quantities, contamination, buyer deductions and access delays, preserving customer-specific confidentiality instructions without retaining readable copies of discarded documents in the service records.
| Question to resolve | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| What exactly will the buyer accept? | Trial collection from one office and follow the material to the agreed buyer, checking segregation, custody records and any exclusions for mixed or sensitive documents at source. |
| What is included in the first trial? | Define accepted office paper and secure handling expectations, distinguishing ordinary recycling collection from confidential destruction services that require a separately substantiated process and customer agreement beforehand. |
| How will a prospect see the offer? | Offer offices a documented custody process rather than unverified destruction promises. |
| What must happen before repeating the trial? | Paper reaches the agreed destination without exposing personal or commercially sensitive information. |
Decide whether to continue
Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. The service loses trust when documents described as securely handled remain exposed, mixed waste lowers buyer acceptance or staff assume recycling automatically guarantees confidential destruction of sensitive records.
If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.
Turn the example into a buyer test
Fictional service: collect eight sealed sacks of office-authorized non-confidential paper from one office, with an illustrative 120 kg net target, for an agreed recycler. The office's responsible data owner releases the material; confidential records go to an appropriately contracted secure-destruction provider instead. Deliver sack IDs, weight/destination evidence and an exception record. Ordinary recycling is not certified destruction, and a bag marked waste does not prove records may lawfully be discarded.
| Buyer discussion | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| Specification to confirm | The collector does not decide retention by reading private documents. |
| Output to inspect | No generic recycling receipt is presented as a destruction certificate. |
| Failure that can defeat acceptance | Sack contains private records |
Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.
What a failed test should change
Check authorized stream without browsing unnecessary content.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
