Pharmacy pickup errands in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand

The buyer and the buying decision

Customers needing a non-clinical collection errand. The offer to test is: Collect sealed medicines only with explicit customer and pharmacy authorization.

Arrange a collection-only service with one pharmacy, separating customer identity authorization from medicine questions and defining how sealed packages reach the approved recipient.

Separate interest from an accepted order

Agree a limited local service with a licensed pharmacy before accepting jobs.

The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.

Collect evidence specific to this offer

Record authorization confirmation, pharmacy handling instructions, sealed package custody times, recipient verification, unsuccessful collection reasons, and questions referred back to the responsible pharmacy staff.

Question to resolveEvidence to retain
What exactly will the buyer accept?Ask pharmacy staff to rehearse an authorization mismatch and an unsuitable collection request, confirming the runner stops and seeks instructions without opening or substituting anything.
What is included in the first trial?Arrange a collection-only service with one pharmacy, separating customer identity authorization from medicine questions and defining how sealed packages reach the approved recipient.
How will a prospect see the offer?Partner only where pharmacy staff approve the collection and custody arrangement.
What must happen before repeating the trial? No dispensing advice, repacking or substitutions; pharmacy instructions govern handling.

Decide whether to continue

Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. The service fails if convenience pressures the runner into interpreting dosage instructions, choosing an alternative product, or accepting a package the pharmacy cannot authorize.

If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.

Turn the example into a buyer test

Fictional pickup PHM-07 concerns one sealed, patient-authorised package that a licensed pharmacy has already dispensed and approved for ordinary local transport. The customer pays the pharmacy directly; the errand fee covers one collection and one named-recipient handover. Job-card fields are pharmacy order reference, collection contact, recipient, approved alternate, pharmacy instructions and return contact. Drug names and diagnoses are not displayed on the runner's route sheet. This offer excludes selecting medicines, counselling, prescription interpretation, controlled products, emergency treatment and refrigerated or otherwise specialised transport. The pharmacist must decide whether this particular order can use the service.

Buyer discussionEvidence to retain
Specification to confirmDo not depart on a promise that the runner can persuade staff to dispense something.
Output to inspectThe pharmacist decides whether returned goods can be accepted; the runner never puts returned medicine back into saleable stock.
Failure that can defeat acceptancePatient requests a different medicine

Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.

What a failed test should change

Check whether pharmacy has authorised a revised dispensed package.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
