Buy for the acceptance standard
The procurement decision starts with the result you must deliver: State actual dimensions and material; avoid unsupported bird-capacity promises.
Ask users to demonstrate filling, positioning and cleaning the sample feeder, observing whether their birds can use it as intended without obvious instability or avoidable spillage.

Ask for the exact unit or pack size, rather than accepting a price without a quantity. Where equipment is involved, check maintenance needs, safe operation, available support and whether you can obtain replacement consumables. Inspect a sample or demonstration where practical. A photograph and a low asking price do not prove suitability or available stock.
Connect procurement to the operating sequence
- Ask keepers which feeder types and cleaning problems they need solved, recording sample dimensions and supplier material descriptions before ordering stock.
- Assemble each model, inspect accessible edges and stability and document any faults or missing components discovered during the demonstration.
- Match the customer to the stated model, record its sale and any returned parts, and use actual demand to decide which sizes to reorder.
At each step, identify the input whose absence would stop delivery. Arrange that input before accepting a deadline. Compare buying with suitable hire or a competent subcontractor, while keeping the responsibility for inspection and customer handover explicit.
Inspect before release to use
Retain the quote and check the delivered specification, quantity, condition and identifying details. Keep unsuitable items separate while you resolve the discrepancy. Record supplier identity and payment reference privately; do not post customer or supplier personal data in a public planning sheet.
Include transport space, damaged fittings, product demonstrations and replacement pieces, calculating margin on functioning feeders sold rather than units merely received in a supplier shipment locally.
Limit the first purchase to the agreed scope: Choose feeder models for a defined flock type and housing arrangement, asking whether customers need floor-standing, suspended or another practical configuration before stocking multiple designs widely.
