Rental listing photography in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand
The buyer and the buying decision
Landlords and authorized agents needing clear room images. The offer to test is: Photograph rental units accurately under the owner's or licensed agent's written instruction.
Plan photographs around the rental applicant’s practical questions, including room connections, usable space and shared facilities, with permission for occupied areas and personal belongings.
Separate interest from an accepted order
Shoot one vacant unit and agree the listing image set before extending the service.
The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.
Collect evidence specific to this offer
Record the shot list, access delays, owner selection changes and questions the photographs failed to answer, preserving the approved set with its property and capture date.
| Question to resolve | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| What exactly will the buyer accept? | Compare the image set with a walkthrough and ask a prospective viewer to describe the layout, checking whether angles or editing create misleading spatial impressions. |
| What is included in the first trial? | Plan photographs around the rental applicant’s practical questions, including room connections, usable space and shared facilities, with permission for occupied areas and personal belongings. |
| How will a prospect see the offer? | Offer a sample contact sheet to registered agents and landlords within a photographic support role. |
| What must happen before repeating the trial? | The images fairly represent the unit and exclude tenants' personal details. |
Decide whether to continue
Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. A listing may attract many enquiries yet waste everyone’s time when wide angles obscure small rooms or missing access photographs conceal a material feature of the property.
If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.
Turn the example into a buyer test
Fictional photography order: photograph one vacant two-bedroom rental unit for its owner or authorized registered agent, delivering 18 labelled edited images and a contact sheet. Example coverage is living room four views, each bedroom three, kitchen three, bathroom two and entrance/common approach three. This is 18 images across six labelled areas. Supply accurate marketing photographs with agreed usage rights; exclude tenant screening, letting negotiation, valuation, floor-plan certification and removal of material property limitations through editing.
| Buyer discussion | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| Specification to confirm | The shot list distinguishes the unit from shared amenities and does not assume an open door grants entry. |
| Output to inspect | Final count, room labels, usage rights and publication authority reconcile. |
| Failure that can defeat acceptance | Bathroom image reveals personal details in a mirror |
Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.
What a failed test should change
Inspect full-resolution reflections before approval.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
