Return parcel collection in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand

The buyer and the buying decision

Online shops handling local returns. The offer to test is: Collect authorized customer returns for a retailer under a clear return policy.

Collect only retailer-authorized returns, distinguishing parcel custody from inspection, refund eligibility, exchange promises, and the customer's responsibility to prepare the approved item for pickup correctly.

Separate interest from an accepted order

Trial one scheduled returns round using retailer-approved cases.

The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.

Collect evidence specific to this offer

Keep authorization references, parcel descriptions permitted by the retailer, pickup attempts, label corrections, custody transfers, warehouse exceptions, and customer questions referred to the retailer separately.

Question to resolveEvidence to retain
What exactly will the buyer accept?Reconcile a test manifest with warehouse receipts, including an unprepared customer and an incorrect parcel label, and verify neither case is marked as refund completion.
What is included in the first trial?Collect only retailer-authorized returns, distinguishing parcel custody from inspection, refund eligibility, exchange promises, and the customer's responsibility to prepare the approved item for pickup correctly.
How will a prospect see the offer?Approach online sellers with a traceable return manifest.
What must happen before repeating the trial? Each return matches its authorization and refund decisions stay with the retailer.

Decide whether to continue

Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. A courier who reassures a customer that a refund is approved can create a dispute the retailer's actual return decision does not support after inspection.

If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.

Turn the example into a buyer test

Fictional return-parcel job RET-15 collects ten customer-sealed online-shop returns from five addresses, two parcels per address, and delivers them to one retailer's authorised returns desk. The output is a reference-level collection log and retailer receipt linking each package to its return authorisation. The runner does not promise a refund, assess product warranty or open packages to judge condition. Sample references R01–R10 carry the retailer's authorisation number and return address; customer names stay in the private route record. Parcels without a valid return instruction or containing undisclosed restricted goods are outside the trial.

Buyer discussionEvidence to retain
Specification to confirmEach of the ten references has an authorisation or a written retailer instruction; a customer complaint alone is not acceptance.
Output to inspectEvery collected reference has a retailer acceptance or documented unresolved outcome; refund status remains the retailer's responsibility.
Failure that can defeat acceptanceRetailer rejects a return

Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.

What a failed test should change

Compare its reason with the written authorisation and external condition record.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
