Salon furniture resale in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand
The buyer and the buying decision
New salon owners and operators replacing selected furniture. The offer to test is: Used salon furniture sold with dimensions, condition photographs and disclosed repairs.
Select furniture by salon workflow, checking chair movement, mirror sightlines and waiting-space circulation alongside measurements before committing to bulky secondhand inventory purchases.
Separate interest from an accepted order
Inspect a small number of pieces and compare collection and refurbishment costs with actual buyer interest.
The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.
Collect evidence specific to this offer
Log viewing objections, repair estimates, delivery access surprises and days occupying storage, then identify which furniture types buyers actually collect without repeated negotiation.
| Question to resolve | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| What exactly will the buyer accept? | Invite the buyer to operate adjustments and inspect repaired joints, upholstery undersides and floor contact points while reviewing the recorded condition photographs. |
| What is included in the first trial? | Select furniture by salon workflow, checking chair movement, mirror sightlines and waiting-space circulation alongside measurements before committing to bulky secondhand inventory purchases. |
| How will a prospect see the offer? | Publish full dimensions and access needs, and let buyers inspect before finalizing a purchase. |
| What must happen before repeating the trial? | Stable furniture matching the description and no hidden electrical or structural faults. |
Decide whether to continue
Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. A chair passes a quick seated demonstration but its adjustment mechanism slips during repeated use, creating a complaint that cosmetic refurbishment cannot solve.
If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.
Turn the example into a buyer test
Fictional stock purchase: two used hydraulic styling chairs for resale to a new two-station salon. Advertise each chair separately with its own underside photograph, seat height range, arm-to-arm width, base width and disclosed upholstery defects. The sample buyer has a narrow entrance, so delivery is conditional on measured access. Exclude powered massage chairs, barber recliners with unknown mechanisms and any chair with an unresolved frame or hydraulic fault. Reupholstery may improve appearance but does not prove structural fitness.
| Buyer discussion | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| Specification to confirm | There is a separate condition record for each chair; mixed tops and bases are disclosed rather than sold as a known matched model. |
| Output to inspect | Buyer matches A and B to their photographs and measurements, then accepts the technician-cleared functions and records transport damage before signing. |
| Failure that can defeat acceptance | Seat slowly drops after height adjustment. |
Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.
What a failed test should change
Remove the chair from customer use and ask the technician to investigate the hydraulic mechanism against its model instructions.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
