Shopfront cleaning in Kenya: Operations and Quality Checks
Deliver the agreed result consistently
Define shopfront work around opening hours, including shutters, display glass and entrance litter while agreeing how displays and merchandise will be protected throughout the cleaning visit.
The operating sequence for this offer is:
- Agree work period. Document accessible surfaces, existing damage and excluded hazards before work. Obtain the site contact's agreement on access and shutdown arrangements.
- protect passers-by. Check each product against the surface and supplier instructions on an inconspicuous area. Keep incompatible chemicals separate and labelled.
- clean approved surfaces. Control the working area and protect adjacent items while cleaning. Track consumables, labour and any area left inaccessible or unsafe.
- check entrance safety. Inspect the agreed checklist with the responsible site contact. Record drying restrictions, unresolved marks, damage observations and lawful waste-handling arrangements.
Put acceptance into the job record
Clean agreed frontage without damage to signs or slippery customer access.
Inspect the frontage from the customer approach, checking glass edges, entrance mats and shutter residue before the retailer opens or resumes normal trading for the day.
Inspect at the point where a correction is still possible, then again at handover. Record rejected or incomplete output separately from accepted output. A completed task is not automatically an accepted task, and an invoice does not establish that the customer received the right result.
Measure real capacity
Time preparation, the main operation, transport, cleaning, approvals and correction as applicable. The slowest stage determines how much you can promise. Where two orders need the same person, space or equipment at the same time, resolve the conflict before confirming both deadlines. An additional enquiry should not erase a commitment already made.
| Operating checkpoint | Evidence for this business |
|---|---|
| Before starting | Define shopfront work around opening hours, including shutters, display glass and entrance litter while agreeing how displays and merchandise will be protected throughout the cleaning visit. |
| During delivery | protect passers-by. Check each product against the surface and supplier instructions on an inconspicuous area. Keep incompatible chemicals separate and labelled. |
| At acceptance | Inspect the frontage from the customer approach, checking glass edges, entrance mats and shutter residue before the retailer opens or resumes normal trading for the day. |
| At the pilot review | Record frontage tasks, trading interruptions, owner signoff and travel between nearby stores, then compare isolated visits with a coordinated street-level cleaning round for the same retailers. |
Keep a correction and escalation rule
When inputs, access, specifications or customer instructions change, pause the affected work and confirm the effect on time and cost. Do not quietly lower the acceptance standard to avoid a delayed delivery. Keep rework caused by your error distinct from a customer-requested change of scope and agree the remedy clearly.
Cleaning water reaches displayed goods or a freshly cleaned entrance is immediately tracked over because the work sequence ignored customer traffic and shop opening arrangements entirely.
Retain the minimum records needed to investigate a complaint without disclosing unrelated personal information. Use measured delivery and actual acceptance as the basis for expanding capacity, rather than the maximum theoretical output of a tool or production line.
Operating control points for this exact offer
| Sequence | Work method | Release checkpoint |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Photograph the street-level entrance before work, including scratched panes, peeling vinyl and chipped stone; mark the customer's side of the boundary on the job card. | Customer signs the entrance photograph and identifies areas the team may touch. |
| 2 | Move a warning sign into the pedestrian approach without blocking public passage, then agree a small work zone that customers can bypass. | No hose, bucket or trailing lead crosses an unprotected walking route. |
| 3 | Identify whether the sign is painted metal, acrylic or vinyl and test the labelled cleaner on a concealed matching part. | The trial leaves no dye on the cloth and no loss of gloss. |
| 4 | Remove loose grit first, clean the agreed glass and sign faces with separate soft tools and collect drips before finishing the threshold. | Frames and shop stock stay dry; dirty wheel or street tools never touch glass. |
| 5 | Inspect the entrance from the road and from inside, dry the threshold and return the sign only when the floor is safe. | Owner accepts visibility, edges and access; bonded graffiti remains an exclusion. |
Do not substitute a tick for an observation: record the count, measurement, approved sample or evidence reference used at each checkpoint. Mark unresolved work as held and identify who can approve the recheck.
Diagnose a failure before repeating it
| Observed symptom to investigate | Check the cause | Proposed response |
|---|---|---|
| Glass shows a greasy haze when sun hits it. | Inspect product measurement and whether the edge cloth picked up sign cleaner. | Use fresh glass equipment and the compatible residue-removal method, then inspect dry from both sides. |
| Acrylic sign becomes dull in the test patch. | Check product compatibility and whether the cloth or brush is abrasive. | Stop that method and consult the sign supplier; do not extend damage across the whole face. |
| Entrance remains wet at reopening. | Look for trapped runoff at the threshold and beneath floor protection. | Keep the area controlled and recover moisture before removing barriers. |
These are diagnostic prompts, not proof of the cause in a real incident. Separate suspect output, record any correction and repeat the relevant acceptance check. Link rejected units, rework time, replacement materials, customer credits and collection delays to the actual job result.
