Spring Onion Growing Supplies: Seed, Trimming and Bunching
Specify the crop and the finished bunch together
Before ordering planting material, confirm what the buyer calls a spring onion and whether it expects a bunching onion or another identified product. Obtain competent local advice on suitability for the actual site and retain the named source, pack quantity and lot or invoice details. KEPHIS offers seed-certification information; its general guidance does not verify a particular seller or crop lot.
Select each item for the pilot
| Item | Question to settle before purchase |
|---|---|
| Planting material | What crop and cultivar are identified, and what pack quantity is quoted? |
| Water equipment | Does it fit the source, reach the trial bed and include necessary fittings? |
| Harvest and trimming tools | Can the agreed root and outer-leaf treatment be performed safely? |
| Scale and reference | How will usable output and the agreed bunch be checked consistently? |
| Ties | Do they hold aligned stalks without damaging the green tops? |
| Containers | Do the bunch length and route fit without avoidable crushing? |
Ask the buyer to inspect a properly identified sample and decide whether roots remain, are trimmed or are removed. Record stalk count or weight and expected length. A kitchen’s requirement and a kiosk display requirement can differ; they should not be merged into one vague product specification.
Test packaging with the receiving route
Pack a small approved sample in the intended container and assess loading, handling and handover. Confirm whether empty crates are returned, who collects them and when. A second journey can affect the route cost even when the crate itself is inexpensive. Protect green tops from avoidable crushing while following a suitable locally advised handling plan.
FAO publishes a general fresh-produce packing-house reference that includes green onion. It does not certify your container, establish a safe shelf life or validate your particular washing method. Do not make a ready-to-eat or food-safety certification claim based on a container supplier's advertisement.
Compare quotes on identical terms
Record variant, pack quantity, delivery destination, charge, payment terms and remedy for a mismatch. Inspect supplied goods against the quote before use. Buy to the pilot scale and measure which step limits accepted bunches before expanding equipment or stock. No supplier's current price or availability has been independently confirmed here.
