Wedding dress alterations in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand
The buyer and the buying decision
Brides who already own a dress needing fit adjustments. The offer to test is: Bridal dress alterations with a written change list, fitting dates and handling record.
Define each bridal alteration against the original dress structure, agreeing which changes are feasible, which decorative details may move, and when fittings must occur.
Separate interest from an accepted order
Assess one dress within your skill level and quote after inspecting construction and embellishments.
The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.
Collect evidence specific to this offer
Record intake photographs, agreed change list, shoes used, fitting decisions, altered decorative areas, handling condition, and bride approval of the finished dress before collection.
| Question to resolve | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| What exactly will the buyer accept? | Have the bride move and sit in the proposed fit with intended shoes and undergarments, checking closures, hem, and delicate details before final stitching. |
| What is included in the first trial? | Define each bridal alteration against the original dress structure, agreeing which changes are feasible, which decorative details may move, and when fittings must occur. |
| How will a prospect see the offer? | Build referrals through bridal shops using documented alteration capability and realistic booking slots. |
| What must happen before repeating the trial? | Approved fit without damage to delicate fabric, beadwork or original structure. |
Decide whether to continue
Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. A fit improvement can damage the overall result when taking in a seam shifts lace motifs or a late shoe change invalidates the approved hem length.
If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.
Turn the example into a buyer test
Fictional BRIDAL-266 alters one customer-owned lace wedding dress WD01 within specialist capability:proposed hem lift 3 cm at centre front tapering to zero at train side marks, and two strap shortenings of 1 cm each, all provisional until fitting. Dress has lining, lace motifs and beadwork; condition map records existing loose beads at left waist. Bodice restructuring, letting-out and bustle are excluded unless separately assessed/approved.
| Buyer discussion | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| Specification to confirm | Do not label previous damage as alteration damage later; no cleaning/pressing before material/care assessment. |
| Output to inspect | Do not claim invisible original finish or guaranteed recovery from structural change; final fit acceptance is documented. |
| Failure that can defeat acceptance | Lining peeks below lace |
Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.
What a failed test should change
Compare each layer's hanging length at named points.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
