Custom slipper making in Kenya: Records and Planning Worksheets
Keep evidence that answers a real operating question
For custom slipper making, the record should connect the promised output, its cost and the buyer's acceptance. Begin with:
Record foot dimensions, pattern version, material descriptions, pair alignment, customer walking feedback, and any claims explicitly limited to the actual sole and construction supplied.
An order and acceptance record
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Output and exclusions | Design slippers around indoor or other explicitly stated use, agreeing foot dimensions, upper fabric, sole construction, and how the customer prefers to put them on. |
| Sale unit | pair |
| Acceptance check | Have the customer try a matched prototype pair, checking toe room, upper pressure, heel position, seam comfort, and ease of walking in the intended setting. |
| Missed-cost check | Include fabric direction matching, lining, sole trimming, failed size prototypes, and time aligning uppers as a pair rather than pricing only small quantities of material. |
| Failure to investigate | A soft-looking slipper can disappoint when its upper presses across the foot or its proportions make the user grip with their toes to keep it on. |
Add the date, private customer reference, agreed price, advance, balance, promised handover and actual acceptance. Record a change before carrying it out. An unresolved complaint needs its own action and follow-up date rather than being overwritten by the next order.
A supplier and cost record
For each required input, record the specification, quantity, supplier identity, quote date, delivered cost, payment terms and reason for selection. Match the record to the receipt and inspect what arrived. Keep one-time setup, recurring inputs and refundable deposits in separate categories so that the same cash movement is not counted twice.
A weekly review
Compare accepted output with started output; reconcile money collected with outstanding balances; investigate rework and returns. Review whether measured capacity can meet the next commitment. A positive surplus estimate does not remove a shortage of cash caused by late collection.
Use sources within their stated scope
- KEBS — Standardization Mark — Product certification for locally manufactured goods; ask KEBS about the exact product standard and production model. Not a statement that each retailer needs its own manufacturing permit. Reference recorded 2026-10-26.
- DOSHS — Registration and Renewal of Workplaces — Workplace registration process and county DOSHS contact route; assess applicability to actual premises and work. Reference recorded 2026-10-26.
- KenInvest — eProcedures licensing and county directory — Official catalogue of county business procedures and sector licensing categories. A category listing is not a complete approval checklist or fee quotation. Reference recorded 2026-10-26.
These references route sector and activity questions. They do not independently establish local customer demand, supplier stock, a complete budget or business profitability. A reference date records the earlier check; it is not a claim that every linked requirement was reverified today.
The complete downloadable guide includes editable planning worksheets. Save backups privately when they contain personal, customer or supplier information. These planning forms do not replace required statutory records or professional advice for a regulated task.
Evidence register for this particular offer
- Tandy leather education - Read manufacturer leather-selection and saddle-stitch education summary; sample patterns/measurements are original briefs, not copied licensed templates. Recorded 2026-10-26.
- Tandy leather education and original-design limits - Read primary stitch-education search summary only. Not evidence that a particular slipper sole supports sewing; actual sole-system documentation and professional prototype approval remain mandatory prebooking gates. Recorded 2026-10-26.
These recorded references support only their stated scope. They do not establish current supplier stock, actual local demand, operator competence or complete commercial feasibility. Preserve source dates and record new checks separately.
Match the evidence to a decision
| Decision question | Business-specific record to retain |
|---|---|
| Was the input fit for use? | Prebooking gate: actual written sole-system sewing support and competent footwear-maker approval required; no suitable supplier/system has yet been verified. |
| Was the work acceptable? | Count five sound complete pairs. No home-made grip test or wearer slip trial establishes certified slip resistance. |
| What remains unresolved? | Worked sample has not been field-tested or independently approved by a practising specialist. |
The operating pack provides an itemised quote tool, supplier request, sales draft, job card, quality response sheet, evidence gaps, operations desk and cashflow/launch-review workbook. Keep a separate private backup per actual job and per scenario. Test restoring it before closing the original. Exported files may contain customer or supplier information; do not publish completed private records as SEO content.
