Passion fruit growing - Customers and market demand
The buyer and the buying decision
Juice processors and produce traders. The offer to test is: Grow passion fruit for fresh-fruit or juice buyers.
Choose a passion fruit sales channel before grading, separating fruit purchased for visible fresh presentation from fruit assessed mainly for usable pulp by a juice maker.
Separate interest from an accepted order
Obtain buyer grade requirements and trial an appropriate supported planting.
The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.
Collect evidence specific to this offer
Keep sample photographs, cut-fruit observations, buyer channel and paid grade weights together, allowing future harvest decisions to follow the commercial specification actually accepted in practice.
| Question to resolve | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| What exactly will the buyer accept? | Ask each intended buyer to inspect and open a representative sample, agreeing how exterior marks and internal quality affect acceptance for their particular use cases. |
| What is included in the first trial? | Choose a passion fruit sales channel before grading, separating fruit purchased for visible fresh presentation from fruit assessed mainly for usable pulp by a juice maker. |
| How will a prospect see the offer? | Ask whether a buyer pays for appearance, usable pulp or both before planning the crop. |
| What must happen before repeating the trial? | Disclose the fruit grade and do not mix deteriorating fruit into sound batches. |
Decide whether to continue
Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. A variety that attracts fresh-fruit buyers may not match a processor's expectations, so one buyer's positive sample feedback cannot establish demand across both target channels.
If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.
