Plant repotting service in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand
The buyer and the buying decision
Households and offices with root-bound or unsuitable pots. The offer to test is: Repot customer plants using suitable containers and documented plant condition.
Assess whether the plant needs a container change, fresh growing medium or another response, agreeing treatment boundaries before disturbing roots or replacing a pot chosen for sentimental reasons.
Separate interest from an accepted order
Repot one suitable plant after agreeing responsibility for existing stress.
The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.
Collect evidence specific to this offer
Log initial plant condition, root observations, pot choice, material use and customer aftercare instructions, distinguishing pre-existing decline from changes reported after the repotting work was completed.
| Question to resolve | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| What exactly will the buyer accept? | Inspect the finished plant for stable placement, clear drainage and appropriate pot fit, explaining the immediate care changes needed after repotting without guaranteeing recovery of existing damage. |
| What is included in the first trial? | Assess whether the plant needs a container change, fresh growing medium or another response, agreeing treatment boundaries before disturbing roots or replacing a pot chosen for sentimental reasons. |
| How will a prospect see the offer? | Offer the service to existing plant buyers and nearby offices. |
| What must happen before repeating the trial? | The new container drains appropriately and the plant is supported, with no survival guarantee. |
Decide whether to continue
Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. Repotting can worsen a struggling plant when the real issue is unsuitable light or watering, while oversized containers and damaged roots create fresh problems after an apparently tidy service.
If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.
Turn the example into a buyer test
Fictional repotting job: assess eight identified client plants and repot only the six judged suitable under the agreed horticultural scope. Example purchase is six draining pots one appropriate size above actual roots and 20 litres of species-suitable medium; final sizes/volume follow inspection. Deliver plant-ID before/after records and care notes. Exclude large/heavy specimens, unknown toxic plants, disease treatment, pesticide use and a promise that repotting cures every yellow leaf.
| Buyer discussion | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| Specification to confirm | Two plants may remain unrepotted; assessed does not mean automatically moved into bigger pots. |
| Output to inspect | The invoice reflects actual accepted work and no recovery guarantee is implied. |
| Failure that can defeat acceptance | Plant wilts after repotting |
Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.
What a failed test should change
Review root condition, medium moisture and handling record.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
