Same-building delivery desk in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand

The buyer and the buying decision

Office blocks and managed apartment buildings. The offer to test is: Run a parcel-receiving desk inside a building with management approval.

Propose a building desk with defined receiving hours, parcel size limits, shelf allocation, collection authority, and management instructions for items nobody collects promptly after notification.

Separate interest from an accepted order

Trial one reception period with a capped parcel volume.

The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.

Collect evidence specific to this offer

Record package identifiers, storage positions, receipt condition, private notification attempts, authorized releases, shift reconciliations, uncollected ageing, and management decisions on unusual or oversized incoming items.

Question to resolveEvidence to retain
What exactly will the buyer accept?Ask management to audit a staged receipt and release, checking duplicate recipient names, damaged packaging, restricted shelf access, and how outstanding parcels reconcile at shift change.
What is included in the first trial?Propose a building desk with defined receiving hours, parcel size limits, shelf allocation, collection authority, and management instructions for items nobody collects promptly after notification.
How will a prospect see the offer?Secure a written building-management agreement before accepting deliveries.
What must happen before repeating the trial?Parcels are stored and released through a consistent auditable process.

Decide whether to continue

Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. A desk becomes unreliable when parcels overflow into public corridors or a familiar resident collects another person's package without the authorized release check being completed.

If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.

Turn the example into a buyer test

Fictional same-building desk DESK-16 operates a parcel receiving desk for one office building for a four-hour weekday window. The building manager authorises receipt of up to thirty ordinary sealed parcels, each linked to an opted-in tenant suite, with same-day tenant pickup. The output is a private incoming register, shelf location record and a pickup acknowledgement. Food requiring temperature control, cash, medicines, hazardous packages, unidentified goods and overnight storage are excluded. Sample entry P014 records courier reference, suite 204, received 11:05, shelf B2 and collected 12:20 by the tenant's authorised colleague.

Buyer discussionEvidence to retain
Specification to confirmBuilding management approves the location without blocking access routes or misrepresenting the desk as a courier branch.
Output to inspectThirty accepted parcels would require thirty final states; no parcel is handed to a person solely because they know a suite number.
Failure that can defeat acceptanceTwo parcels share a courier number

Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.

What a failed test should change

Check whether it is a multi-piece consignment.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
