Yoghurt drink production in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand
The buyer and the buying decision
Retailers or direct buyers with suitable storage. The offer to test is: Produce yoghurt drinks only with competent dairy-processing controls.
Select one yoghurt drink format with competent dairy-processing support, deciding how consistency, fruit additions, and pack handling will be controlled for the proposed sale.
Separate interest from an accepted order
Confirm the regulatory category and validate processing, packaging and cold-chain arrangements before sale.
The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.
Collect evidence specific to this offer
Keep dairy source, approved process version, batch observations, release decisions, fruit addition records, pack complaints, and customer acceptance linked to the relevant production lot.
| Question to resolve | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| What exactly will the buyer accept? | Have a qualified process adviser review the actual operation and ask buyers to evaluate drinkability, pack opening, and separation under the supported distribution arrangement. |
| What is included in the first trial? | Select one yoghurt drink format with competent dairy-processing support, deciding how consistency, fruit additions, and pack handling will be controlled for the proposed sale. |
| How will a prospect see the offer? | Talk to the Kenya Dairy Board and a competent processor before seeking retail orders. |
| What must happen before repeating the trial? | Do not improvise fermentation instructions or invent shelf life from taste and thickness. |
Decide whether to continue
Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. The drink can appear acceptable while a poorly controlled process undermines confidence, and thickness alone cannot justify releasing a questionable batch for sale.
If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.
Turn the example into a buyer test
Fictional product-development enquiry: 20 sealed 250 mlbottles of a specified yoghurt drink, produced and packed by a competent licensed dairy processor under a signed technical agreement. Razco describes yoghurt and contract-manufacturing capabilities, but no particular drink SKU, minimum order or 20-bottle service has been confirmed. This record scopes a processor RFQ and receiving/distribution pilot; it is not a home fermentation recipe or a proven supply arrangement.
| Buyer discussion | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| Specification to confirm | No customer order is accepted from a hypothetical contract-manufacturing assumption. |
| Output to inspect | An actual processor quote and acceptance record replace the illustrative scenario. |
| Failure that can defeat acceptance | A yoghurt-drink pack is swollen |
Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.
What a failed test should change
Isolate the actual processor lot and compare receipt, seal and handling records. Do not taste a suspect bottle or treat pressure as a cosmetic defect.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
