Curtain retail shop in Kenya: Risks and Launch Plan
Set the conditions for a safe commercial test
- Incorrect panel calculations
- colour mismatch
A curtain purchase disappoints when customers measure only glass width and discover the chosen pair does not create the fullness or privacy they expected.
A risk list is useful only when it changes a decision. For each risk, write the observable warning, who checks it and the response before the next commitment. Do not treat a reserve of money as permission to continue unsafe or unauthorized work.
Use a small, measurable pilot
Offer swatches and measure a few real windows before committing to bulk panels.
The pilot scope is: Choose ready-made curtain pairs around the customer' s window, rail, and privacy needs, distinguishing a single panel from the quantity required to cover the opening.

|---|---|
| Scope agreed | Choose ready-made curtain pairs around the customer' s window, rail, and privacy needs, distinguishing a single panel from the quantity required to cover the opening. |
| Output acceptable | Ask the buyer to compare a sample hanging method with their rail and review the measured coverage, light appearance, and included fittings before purchase. |
| Costs recorded | Include matching-panel sourcing, hooks not supplied by the manufacturer, transport creases, sample display, and returns caused by confusion between panel width and pair coverage. |
| Buyer response recorded | Record window and rail measurements, panel count, hanging type, buyer-approved coverage, colour observations in the room, and the cause of any exchange request. |
Stage the launch around prerequisites
First confirm the buyer specification and activity requirements. Then compare suppliers, establish suitable facilities and prepare the operating record. Run the bounded trial when those prerequisites are in place. Review actual costs, quality failures and cash collected before increasing the commitment.
This sequence is not a promise that the complete business cycle fits into 30 days. Growing periods, qualifications, approvals, seasonal access and customer buying cycles can require longer. Revise the schedule when a prerequisite changes rather than skipping it to meet a launch date.
Choose continue, revise, pause or stop
Continue only when the scoped result is accepted and direct costs and payment timing are workable. Revise one part of the offer if the problem is identifiable and affordable to test again. Pause when required information, permission, skills or resources are missing. Stop the affected work when safety, consent or lawful authority is uncertain.
Keep a maximum test loss and unpaid-balance limit suited to your actual funds. A successful single delivery is useful evidence, but it does not establish year-round demand or justify committing every available resource.
Tie launch milestones to observable checks
| Risk signal | Evidence to inspect | Response to test |
|---|---|---|
| Curtain drop too short | Measure actual hanging point to desired hem and compare270cm panel length plus heading consumption; distinguish rail height from window height. | Select suitable supported length before alteration or obtain revised plan; do not promise hooks recover a substantial measured shortage. |
| Shade differs across pair | Compare physical panel lots under same light against approved sample. | Separate mismatched pairs and source matching stock or obtain explicit revised approval before installation. |
| Heading incompatible | Compare actual rod/track and supplied heading type/clearance with supplier instructions. | Change model or agree competent separately scoped alteration; reapprove finished drop and fit instead of forcing hooks into unsupported fabric. |
Illustrative acceptance decision
Fictional worked decision, not a field-test result: Four 140 cm wide panels provide 560 cm flat fabric total. Two panels per window give 280 cm flat fabric per window, not an automatic 280 cm finished coverage after gathering. If the buyer requires more fullness, the four-panel quote is not yet approved.
This is a teaching scenario, not a reported operator result.
Outstanding go / hold conditions
- No trial, field test, customer transaction or specialist validation was performed. These are pending operating and acceptance checks.
- Actual available stock, delivered costs, tax, unobserved rates and applicable local approvals require confirmation. Source scope does not validate the entire business.
- Catalogue panel/pair unit, heading, colour lot, finished dimensions and actual care label remain unresolved; no firm procurement can proceed until confirmed.
Assign an owner, evidence reference and review date to each unresolved condition. Do not give every milestone a fixed calendar date when it depends on a crop, production, approval or competence cycle. Run only a suitable limited trial, reconcile accepted output and actual cash, and record whether the evidence supports holding, revising, proceeding within the limit or stopping.
