Door lock fitting in Kenya: Risks and Launch Plan
Set the conditions for a safe commercial test
- Unauthorized requests
- damage to door or frame
A new lock works while the door is open but binds when closed, revealing that fitting ignored the frame alignment and the customer's actual locking routine.
A risk list is useful only when it changes a decision. For each risk, write the observable warning, who checks it and the response before the next commitment. Do not treat a reserve of money as permission to continue unsafe or unauthorized work.
Use a small, measurable pilot
Fit a standard replacement on a suitable door and record the full parts and labour scope.
The pilot scope is: Confirm the door material, handing and existing lock arrangement before selecting hardware, agreeing who controls spare keys and any required landlord authorisation for the work.
| Gate | Evidence before continuing |
|---|---|
| Scope agreed | Confirm the door material, handing and existing lock arrangement before selecting hardware, agreeing who controls spare keys and any required landlord authorisation for the work. |
| Output acceptable | Ask the authorised user to operate the fitted lock from both sides, checking alignment and key handover while documenting any remaining door movement problem. |
| Costs recorded | Cost lock compatibility checks, corrective door alignment and extra key arrangements, because a low hardware price can conceal substantial fitting labour on an old door. |
| Buyer response recorded | Record lock model, door condition, authorised key recipient and operating checks, using the first jobs to identify which doors need repair before a replacement lock. |
Stage the launch around prerequisites
First confirm the buyer specification and activity requirements. Then compare suppliers, establish suitable facilities and prepare the operating record. Run the bounded trial when those prerequisites are in place. Review actual costs, quality failures and cash collected before increasing the commitment.
This sequence is not a promise that the complete business cycle fits into 30 days. Growing periods, qualifications, approvals, seasonal access and customer buying cycles can require longer. Revise the schedule when a prerequisite changes rather than skipping it to meet a launch date.
Choose continue, revise, pause or stop
Continue only when the scoped result is accepted and direct costs and payment timing are workable. Revise one part of the offer if the problem is identifiable and affordable to test again. Pause when required information, permission, skills or resources are missing. Stop the affected work when safety, consent or lawful authority is uncertain.
Keep a maximum test loss and unpaid-balance limit suited to your actual funds. A successful single delivery is useful evidence, but it does not establish year-round demand or justify committing every available resource.
Tie launch milestones to observable checks
| Risk signal | Evidence to inspect | Response to test |
|---|---|---|
| Key turns with the door open but binds when shut | Have the installer compare door alignment and latch/lockcase engagement rather than assuming cylinder failure. | Assess alignment separately; do not force the key or hide the problem by loosening hardware. |
| Cylinder projects incorrectly on one side | Compare separate inside/outside measurements and the selected model. | Replace with the correct compatible dimensions rather than padding or modifying it. |
| New key count does not match the box | Reconcile sealed pack contents and installer custody. | Resolve before acceptance and record all keys; do not dismiss an unexplained missing key. |
Outstanding go / hold conditions
- Proposed job has not been field tested or independently reviewed by a practising operator.
- Obtain actual local rates and the exact product/material instructions before quoting or scheduling.
Assign an owner, evidence reference and review date to each unresolved condition. Do not give every milestone a fixed calendar date when it depends on a crop, production, approval or competence cycle. Run only a suitable limited trial, reconcile accepted output and actual cash, and record whether the evidence supports holding, revising, proceeding within the limit or stopping.
