Receipt roll distribution in Kenya: Customers and Market Demand
The buyer and the buying decision
shops and restaurants The offer to test is: Receipt rolls matched to the customer's printer model
Match rolls to customers' actual printer requirements using specifications and a physical sample, avoiding broad descriptions such as standard till roll that conceal different machine needs.
Separate interest from an accepted order
Test sample rolls in the actual printer
The purpose of this test is to establish whether the buyer accepts the specified result, delivery arrangement and payment terms. An encouraging interview does not establish repeat demand. Ask what the buyer currently uses, what would make them change supplier and who has authority to approve the first order. Record a refusal as carefully as an enquiry so that unsuccessful offers do not disappear from the evidence.
Collect evidence specific to this offer
Keep printer references, approved samples, specifications, supplier batches, feed complaints and usage intervals so reorders preserve the correct variant and distinguish defects from accidental substitutions.
| Question to resolve | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| What exactly will the buyer accept? | Test an approved sample in the intended printer, checking feed, fit, output readability and labelled specification before ordering larger quantities for recurring customer supply. |
| What is included in the first trial? | Match rolls to customers' actual printer requirements using specifications and a physical sample, avoiding broad descriptions such as standard till roll that conceal different machine needs. |
| How will a prospect see the offer? | Visit POS users with measured sample rolls, a compatibility sheet and a small test-pack offer before requesting repeat orders. |
| What must happen before repeating the trial? | Correct feeding and readable print on approved stock |
Decide whether to continue
Review the specification with the buyer before committing to tools or stock. A trial is commercially useful only if actual costs, rejected work, time spent and cash collected can be reconciled. A similar-looking roll fits the printer but feeds poorly or produces disappointing output, creating trading interruptions because procurement considered external diameter without a practical machine trial.
If a buyer changes the required output, record a new scope and re-cost the test. Do not count a request for a different product as proof of demand for the original one. Keep personal contact details in your private records and use customer statements publicly only with permission.
Turn the example into a buyer test
Fictional replenishment order: supply one hundred thermal receipt rolls to a shop after its technician approves the exact width, outside diameter, core and paper grade for the installed printer. A candidate retail listing is 80 × 80 × 13 mm, but this is not universal printer compatibility. Sell two fifty-roll cartons only after a real sample approval; exclude BPA-free claims, archival receipt guarantees and overriding fiscal-device settings.
| Buyer discussion | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| Specification to confirm | A receipt measuring roughly 80 mm across does not reveal the maximum roll diameter or core. |
| Output to inspect | Reorders use the recorded product code, not the vague description ETR paper. |
| Failure that can defeat acceptance | Paper feeds but prints blank |
Ask the buyer to describe one acceptable and one unacceptable result. Record the decision maker, price basis, quantity, handover point and payment date privately. A sample request, an encouraging conversation and an accepted order are different evidence. Keep the first commitment within your demonstrated capacity; no customer interview or successful trial is asserted here.
What a failed test should change
Check thermal side and approved loading direction.. If the offer cannot meet that check, revise the specification or process before promising a repeat. Keep rejected offers and reasons in the same register as positive replies so that your record does not exaggerate demand.
