Kunde Leaves Farming in Kenya: Find Buyers

Choose the product before promising the harvest

A kunde leaves enterprise needs a clear decision: is the trial plot primarily being managed for leaf sales, grain, or a deliberately planned combination? Discuss the specific crop and field plan with a competent local adviser before committing to repeated leaf deliveries. This page does not claim a standard effect of picking leaves on grain yield; the decision must be measured for the actual plot and season.

The World Vegetable Center identifies cowpea leaves among the crops covered by its Kenya manual. The publisher’s page gives a reference route, not evidence that a particular kitchen will buy your produce or that a certain crop outcome will follow.

Compare buyers by what they accept

BuyerQuestions for the first conversation

Vegetable stallPreferred bunch, display timing, unsold remainder and returns
Household buyerQuantity, delivery or collection arrangement and repeat-order process

Ask the buyer to sort a properly identified sample into immediately usable leaves and unwanted stalks. Agree whether the selling unit is a bunch or a kilogram and whether the buyer checks gross or accepted weight. A sample’s source should be disclosed; a purchased sample can clarify the specification but cannot demonstrate what your own plot will produce.

Record demand without confusing it with interest

Keep the date, requested unit, approved sample, stated order, actual delivery, accepted quantity and amount paid in separate columns. Ask why a prospect declines: an unwanted stalk ratio, unsuitable delivery time and price concern require different adjustments. A compliment on a sample is not a paid repeat order.

Before adding customers, compare the promised leaf quantity with the agreed field plan. Two buyers cannot be promised the same picking session unless the actual crop and delivery capacity support both. If the buyer changes the leaf or stalk requirement, update the order and remeasure sorting labour.

A small trial can test whether one buyer accepts a defined delivery and pays under agreed terms. It does not prove a year-round shortage, a specific yield or profitability for the entire area. Keep buyer contact details private and obtain permission before using customer feedback publicly.
